Overview: Procurement foresters are a type of forester who specializes in the buying and selling of timber. Foresters supervise activities around forest conservation, prepares sties for new trees, manage forest regeneration, participate in fire suppression, and determine how to remove timber with minimal damage. Procurement foresters also inventory the types, amount, and locations of timber on a property. They will appraise and negotiate timber prices for contracts, then work with subcontractors to remove the trees. Unlike other conservationists, procurement foresters will work mostly on private lands with farmers for access to their timber rather than public state-owned lands. Over the next decade, forestry jobs are expected to grow.
