I. JOB SUMMARY

Main Topic: Human Geography
Secondary Topic: Places and Regions

Overview:  Adult Basic, Secondary, and English as a Second Language (ESL), teachers educate adults in subjects such as reading, writing, and mathematics with the goal of students earning their high school equivalency credential (such as a GED), or to enhance their skills to aid them in job searches. Adult ESL teachers teach adults whose first language is not English to read, write, and speak in English. More times than not, Adult Educators work with individuals from different walks of life, backgrounds, countries, and cultures, and in turn must be able to meet the needs of all students. Because of this, having knowledge over human and cultural geography would greatly aid adult educators in being able to communicate and interact with their students, no matter how diverse their class makeup may be. They may also implement geographic skills such as GIS, or lessons in human geography into their classrooms to enrich their student’s education and teach them new valuable skills or frameworks of thinking.
