Overview:  Models pose for artists, photographers and other clients particularly in advertising industry to promote or represent different products in the market. These products could range from clothing, cosmetics, food to electronics and appliances. Models also work in the fashion industry and modeling agencies with fashion designers to create new designs and trends in popular culture and fashion. Particularly, models display clothing and merchandise in print, online and fashion shows and runways advertisements. They also promote products on TV and other media commercials. They also represent brands and different events.  Models also pose for artists who create sketches, paintings and sculptures. They also work with photographers and movie directors. Their portfolio of their past work is one of the major aspects that helps them get jobs. They also travel to different parts of the country to meet potential clients. Models either can get signed to a modeling agency or work as a freelancer. Models get jobs particularly on the basis of their physical features and then in some industries based on their performance. Some models specialize in a certain area of market, products or industry.

Models need geographic skills for different reasons. Different types of products are commercially popular and viable in different regions of the world. Models require geographic knowledge to understand these geographic distinctions. Models also need geographic knowledge to understand what race or gender are prominent customers in a certain region, which also determines the viability of a model to get employment in that particular place. Similarly, fashion to differ with different cultural, socio-economic and environmental characters of a certain geographic location which also requires geographic knowledge to understand.
