Overview: Location analysts can be involved in many areas of business operations. The job may include site research, marketing, market intelligence, property planning and research, retail, facilities, operations, planning and acquisitions. Some duties include: Producing geo-location data to support development of reports; Managing and facilitating collection of data files; Mapping the dynamics of areas; Working for corporate clients mapping market share across wide geographical areas; Managing location planning requirements; Working with retail and property departments to manage location of business ventures; Producing sales forecasts for new stores and extensions; Preparing clear and accurate reports for senior decision makers; Gaining expert knowledge on the area of operation in terms of retail landscape, population and demographics, with a working knowledge of the rest of the company’s scope of operations; Searching for opportunities for investment by analyzing location types to support successful investment and meet strategy plans of the company; Using current analyst tools, methods and templates to interpret and predict consumer behavior. Many private companies use location analysts to decide on new store locations and other business decisions. Employment also exists in the public sector, frequently in local government.
