Overview: Location managers are responsible for finding appropriate sites for filming and creating the appropriate environment for scenes. They must be able to communicate with state and local government agencies, picture or film prospective areas, understand the expectations of the producers and directors, and negotiate with local authorities for the use of spaces. Location managers need to understand a local environment and prepare a site for filming. They tend to work on larger productions and can specialize in certain locations. Many geographers work in the entertainment industry especially for finding locations and negotiating with state and local governments for cooperation. Location managers work in the private sector or as consultants with entertainment companies and tend to stay on for the production to continue negotiations with local authorities
