I. JOB SUMMARY

Overview: Water quality inspectors measure pollutants in water that may damage ecosystems or hurt humans. They take samples of water and make sure that any substances inside the water meet legal standards and guidelines. They also must respond to any complaints in water quality and potentially help educate the public on ways to protect water quality. Geographers make excellent water quality specialists as they are well informed about the hydrologic process. They also are familiar with the negative consequences that water pollutants have on communities and wildlife. In order to be a good water quality specialist, one must be passionate about the environment and the community that lives there.
