Overview: Delivery drivers pick up, transport, and drop off packages usually within a local region or urban area. They must load and unload cargo, communicate with customers, follow traffic laws, handle paperwork, and report problems. Delivery drivers need to be able to navigate areas understanding street grids and roads that they cannot use based on the size and weight of their vehicle. A good understanding of transportation systems will allow the driver to be more efficient. Being able to read and understand maps will help them to be successful. Delivery drivers work in a variety of different sectors, but in general they work for private companies or as contractors. With the growth of online ordering, this job field is expected to continue growing.
