Overview: Concierge are hotel professionals who assist guests in the lobby and are among the first point of contacts with the guests. Concierge complete variety of tasks in the hospitality industry and are vital part of hotel management. Their main task is to ensure that the guests have a pleasant experience at their facility. A concierge is also referred to as a guest relations manager or a residential concierge. They ensure that the customers can access necessary information or services. They are often found working at a hotel or a high end apartment.

Concierge are responsible for greeting new or returning guests, managing complaints, managing mail, luggage, deliveries or messages for guests, arranging and coordinating transport for guests upon request, providing information on local attractions, restaurants and events, coordinating dinner reservations, managing housekeeping and maintenance requests and developing and expanding a network of contacts within the community.

A strong knowledge of cultural geography would help Concierge in their jobs. As hotel businesses are tourism centric businesses, this knowledge will help them understand the needs of customers from different regions of the country and the world. Based on this knowledge the Concierge who is most often one of the first contact persons with the customers can provide services catered to the customer’s culture and practices. Likewise, the knowledge about seasons and the flow of domestic and international customers which would allow the Concierge to become prepared. Also having knowledge of different spoken language would help in better communication.
