Overview: This position serves and assists the geospatial needs of all students, faculty and staff as well as interested members of a community. Geographic Information Systems specialists are those most qualified for this position but having a thorough knowledge of remote sensing and map making is crucial as well. In order to be able to serve and assist all faculty, staff and students of a university with their GIS needs, one must be proficient in the usage of GIS software, as well as knowledgeable about how to find the appropriate spatial data needed to complete a wide variety of GIS projects. A university library GIS specialist must also be willing to interact and teach the student body, faculty and staff the skills needed to master GIS.
