Overview: Transportation Planning Specialists will help to develop multimodal short- and long-range transportation plans and geographic planning analyses. Some duties may include: analyzing existing traffic, and forecasting future traffic projections for highway projects throughout a given state or region. Specialists will learn to conduct multimodal transportation planning studies for rural and/or urban areas and how to assist local governments in developing, maintaining and implementing transportation plans for larger urban areas. This position is responsible for serving as a liaison to the Metropolitan Planning Organization and local government staff within an assigned geographic area. Responsible for understanding and communicating the transportation conditions and needs within assigned area and making recommendations for improvements.
