Overview: Transportation planners oversee the logistics within a company to get products to the customer or consumer in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. Planning large scale movements. This role encompasses purchasing, supplier management, warehousing, distribution, and customer service. Many people work together to ensure the whole supply chain functions to achieve results. Duties include: Managing budgets; Organizing schedules and routes; Ensuring that vehicles are safe and comply with legal requirements; Keeping drivers informed of their duties; Planning routes and scheduling loads; Booking in deliveries and liaising with clients; Directing transport activities; Monitoring transport costs; Working to reduce the carbon footprint of the organization through carbon friendly transport strategies.
