Overview: The 5th generation communication (5G) technology is based on a high frequency radio, which has a signal with weaker penetration than 4G. The distribution of 5G base stations will be in a high density in urban area. The deployment of 5G stations should focus on the balance between the signal coverage area and the cost.
Geographers at Work: analyzing people’s or business needs of 5G in an area, and testing the signal strength in buildings, streets or some other crowded places. Giving an optimal solution to the deployment with a high usage rate and provide extra signal for potential needs.
Skills: telecommunication engineering, GIS, data analysis, marketing research.
